New Details On Porsche 911 (991) GT3 RS [ 4ut0m0t1v3 ] Aug 3rd 2013, 19:03
Now that we know what we should know about the GT3, speculation heats up about the next hot Porsche, the GT3 RS. Latest reports coming from sources close to Porsche suggest a late 2014 launch for the RS. And no, there is no manual option for that one either.
The entire architecture of the new GT3, GT3 RS, and almost certainly the GT2 that will follow, is based around the PDK transmission. It shares some of its bits with the electronic differential. So developing a manual gearbox would be very costly and time consuming, and the end result won’t be nowhere near as fast as the PDK model.
The GT3 RS should get a more powerful version of the 3.8 liter flat-six, but some say there is a possibility that Porsche may go nuts and put the 4.0 liter version – usually reserved for a special limited edition like the previous 4.0 liter RS – into the standard car. In any case, it could have close to 500 horsepower.
Other changes over the standard 991 GT3 include a carbon fiber roof for lightness and lower center of gravity, revised gearing with shorter ratios, sportier suspension, adjustable rear wing, and wider hips with body panels adapted from the Turbo model.
